Training

The Financial Planning and Budget Office offers monthly, quarterly, and annual training. Find a training or request to have a training for your specific need.

Intro to Budget

This in-person training is designed for employees that are new to Sam Houston or want a refresher on Sam Houston’s budget processes. In this training, participants will understand what a budget is and where it comes from, how to navigate and access budget information, be introduced to the two Change of Budget methods, and learn the basics of how to dive into budget numbers and resources for account reconciliation. This training is offered twice a month. If the dates/times do not fit your schedule, please contact budget@shsu.edu.

Change of Budget Training

This online training takes a deep dive into how to enter and submit Change of Budget Requests through either MyJournals (pool to pool transactions) or the Change of Budget App. You must have approval from your Dean or VP Office to enter Change of Budgets. Once you have approval, you will need to be added to the authorize list in Talent Management to take the training online.

Wdesk Training

Wdesk Training is offered annually in January for employees selected by division VP and Deans that will be requesting new initiative, HEF, fixed cost, or self-funded funds for the new fiscal year. You will learn how to enter, prioritize and move requests based on your organizational hierarchy. Invitations will be distributed prior to the training each year.

Budget Reconciliation and Tracking

This in-person training is for employees that have some budget experience and is suggested for new employees that have been in their jobs for a minimum of 3 months after they take the Intro to Budget Training. Participants will learn how to reconcile and track their budget, expenses, and revenue to ensure their budgets are on track. A basic template will be provided. If the dates/times do not fit your schedule, please contact budget@shsu.edu.

2, 3, and 8 Funds

This training is for those that manage any fund that starts with a 2, 3 or 8. These are restricted funds and they operate a little differently than funds that start with a 1. In this training we will go over several facets to be aware of when managing this fund. From how the budget carries forward, to how revenue is budgeted, this training will provide the basics for cleaning up and managing your fund.

Get the Program Code

This training will show participants the importance of using the correct Program Code when working with budgets, travel requisitions, or when making purchases. This training will explore where to find program codes, verify the use of the correct program code, and how to clean up program codes.
